Letterpress Printing

From Gutenberg in the 15th Century through till the 1970’s, letterpress was the world’s main print method. Offset printing and digital offer quicker and more consistent processes, but the old letterpress process is still appreciated by discerning creatives. The use of heavy impression on soft stocks gives a wonderful tactile aesthetic to your prints. Want a very special, vintage style look? Consider a letter press print.

FEATURES OF THIS PROCESS

  • Beautiful indented result, most effective on thick spongy stocks
  • Great for short to medium print runs
  • Letterpress is printed one colour at a time and each colour needs a separate printing plate and set-up on the press.
  • Each colour is mixed by hand using the pantone colour system. For this reason most letterpress jobs are usually one or two colour designs.
  • Letterpress is not so good at printing large areas of solid colour. If you are designing items for letterpress it is best to stick with a white background. Have text and design without too many solid areas
